The Get Off/Rock The Freshest

Arizona is known for its heat and cacti, but no one really thinks about the rich dance culture that is constantly growing here. There are two Hip-Hop events coming up that will showcase some of the best dancers that AZ has to offer. The first is "The Get Off: Skools Out" and the second is Rock The Freshest.

AZXclusive.com The Get Off Skools Out"The Get Off" is a Jerkin' and Open Style 1 on 1 Battle. Jerkin' is a fairly new dance style and was made popular by artists like the New Boyz who pretty much started the Jerkin' movement with their song "You're a Jerk". Jerkin' is definitely a style that the younger generation of dancers has latched on to and there are many Crews that specialize in this form of dance. The Open Styles 1 on 1 Battle is always sick. Think of America's Best Dance Crew on a local level. In fact it was these types of competitions that helped the Elektrolytes, America's Best Dance Crew Finalists, to hone their skills to compete on a National level. With the amount of Dance Studios starting up competition has never been stiffer. Come out to Cyphers Center for Urban Arts 9201 N 29th Ave #36 Phoenix, AZ 85051 on June 16th and see what AZ Dance is all about.

Who's The IllAZ?! Battle and Showcase

This multi-level hip-hop fundraising event was held at Phoenix Center of the Arts on June 2nd and 3rd by the AZ branch of Rock Steady Crew, an icon in the breakin' community. Arian Shadoe Tontowi put the event together and it was a great success. When asked, Shadoe stated that his goal was to put together an event for his crew with a small battle as a precursor to the Rock Steady Anniversary. The event kept growing and changing as he planned it out and after all was said and done Who's The IllAZ was born. The event included a 3on3 Breaking Battle, 2on2 Popping Battle, Cyphers, Dance Showcases by some of the Best Crews in the nation, and sounds provided by Cre One, DV One, Tok Sik, and Skeme Richards.

Red Monkey Continues
Red Monkey Monarch Theatre Phoenix, AZBetween 1996 and 2001, one event held the highest respect by it's peers before it mysteriously disappeared. In 2005, it returned. Everytime RedMonkey opened it's doors, dance music history was created... -Pete "Supermix" Salaz (RedMonkey Creator)  After the end of the infamous underground club, Chupa!, RedMonkey launched in 1996. It was a sporadically thrown party held in a South Phx bar, Riverbottom Lounge, that featured local house music heroes as well as world renowned djs. RedMonkey was a concept conjured up by local house music souldier, Pete Salaz, who was feeling the need to continue what Chupa! had started; a place where everyone felt comfortable regardless of race, color, or creed, all held together by house music. On Memorial Day Weekend May 25th RedMonkey continues. Join us at Monarch Theatre and become a part of history.
